Almost immediately after getting into a relationship I started to push the person I loved away because I was scared that if they decided to leave me one day, I would essentially be emotionally destroyed and never get over it. I didn’t want to tell the person that I felt this way and so out of fear of being left or getting in too deep, I would go cold suddenly and withdraw and intentionally shut down. When I did open up, I was told that my mood swings were like an ocean and I realized how hurtful I had been while trying to “protect” myself. The song is about wanting to do better and not be this way.
