The second out of eight singles from “Music Inspired by BIONICLE: Vol. II” is out! Our next stop in our journey through the BIONICLE-universe, is the song Lost in Paradise. It dates back as early as 2014, when I was working on the soundtrack for the unfinished series “Mask of Creation”. Two years later, I picked it up again to flesh it out as an actual song, with the help of an acapella recorded by singer/songwriter eSoreni. It’s only now where I’ve decided to rerecord this track, to fully give it it’s own identity. Roodaka is a name that is very familiar to many BIONICLE fans, I’d assume. She’s the main antagonist of the 2005 storyarc in the series, where she’s the Viceroy of a horde of vicious spiders called the Visorak. Throughout the arc, she uses her manipulative and cunning nature to achieve her ambitions and gain more power, like for example, successfully persuading the main protagonist Toa Vakama, to abandon his other Toa-teammates and lead the Visorak. She’d serve as the main inspiration for the song, which outside the context of BIONICLE, reflects a toxic or abusive relationship, from the perspective of the abuser, in this case it’s more psychological rather than physical. In contrast to the previous single, “Lost in Paradise” is more synth-oriented, inspired by the styles of bands like Depeche Mode and Duran Duran. I felt like having a more electronic sound would serve the darker themes of the song much better than having it done through the conventional rock ensemble. I also got more on my plate than I had on the previous single, playing both synths and electronic percussion on this song. Lead vocals were recorded by the singer/songwriter Steph Something (or Stephanie Gilliard), while guitars were done by Massimo De Agostini and Stefano Mast. I greatly appreciate their contributions and would love to work with each and everyone of them on later projects in the future. Love and peace!
