We’ve now reached the end of our journey. The final single from “Music Inspired by BIONICLE: Vol. II” is here, and fittingly, it’s the closing track, "Time Trap". This piece has its origins back in 2015 when I first recorded it as an instrumental demo titled “Time.” I felt now was the perfect moment to revisit it and develop it into a full-fledged prog rock composition. While I initially envisioned it with lyrics and vocals, I ultimately decided that an extended guitar solo would better capture the essence of the track. The title, “Time Trap”, should be familiar to anyone versed in BIONICLE-lore. It’s a nod to the story written by Greg Farshtey as an extended epilogue to the 2005-arc. Widely regarded as one of the narrative high points of the franchise, the story follows Toa Vakama on a journey through the Great Barrier to recover the Mask of Time, sparking an adventure that transcends time and space. This narrative had a profound influence on the track, making the title “Time Trap” an obvious choice. Musically, you’ll likely notice the shameless influence of Pink Floyd and the legendary guitar work of David Gilmour. Their sound has always been a significant inspiration for me, and I decided to embrace that influence fully for this piece. While I handled the keyboard parts, I had the pleasure of working with five other talented musicians on this track. Jim Lawlor returned to provide rhythm guitar, Andrea Spinelli contributed bass, Nick D played drums, and Kelly Miller added synthesizers along with extra arrangements. But the spotlight truly belongs to Mitch Brody, who delivered an outstanding lead guitar performance. His work on this track is nothing short of incredible, perfectly capturing the sound and feel I was aiming for. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making this track a reality, and I look forward to future collaborations with them. And with that… we’ve reached the end. The entire album is now available on streaming services, where you can listen to all the tracks we’ve covered. I want to thank you all for taking this journey with me. This has been one of the most ambitious projects I’ve undertaken, and it has served to make me more emboldened and confident as a producer and songwriter.
