There's sort of a riddle in this song. Catchy lines about not being an astronaut go mostly misunderstood. 'I could've had you but I'm not an astronaut' start the refrain. This is saying that I could get the one I was dreaming of because I wasn't good enough. In this case I wasn't good enough to be an astronaut. This is juxtaposed through the passing of time and we get the next iteration of the line: " I'm not an astronaut but I could've had you." Personally this goes back in my mind to a place where a distinction was made where someone too lofty in status to attain romantically has become familiar and is not much of anything, that is to say; I'm not an astronaut but I could've had you. This thematic palindrome is an important part of the song. And there's the bridge! Now you know what I was thinking when I wrote this song =)
