Welcome to my Genesis NFT release, Beautiful Tragedy. This one has been a long time coming. It’s inception beginning during the early days of lockdown in 2020. Everyone was losing their minds, but for me it felt like the first time I took a breath after a 5 year sprint. In the chaos I was rediscovering this sleeping giant in me. For 5 years I was working non-stop. 12 hour days, occasionally 21 days straight. All to pay for degrees I didn’t believe in but somehow that version of the American dream was what was sold to me and shoved down my throat. A different story for a different day. I can’t remember exactly when during those months of lockdown but an old friend reached out and asked if I wanted to join this “songwriter’s circle” he was putting together each week on zoom. It became something to look forward to each week. A way to work on art each day when the days blurred together. Beautiful Tragedy was one of the songs from those sessions. I was trying to ramp up both my lyric writing and production skills at that time. This is the first time I fully had my hands in the production pot, outsourcing things to friends when I felt I had reached my limits. Lyrically this is the first time I explored the idea of writing stories that were not my own. Funny enough Taylor Swift released albums that year along the same lines.. Folklore and Evermore. If I remember correctly for the same reasons.. pulling material from your own life is exhausting. And what if you’re a sad songwriter and your life is going great? Do you.. stop creating? Self sabotage? As the world “returned to normal” this track ultimately lived on my laptop. It’s as if we hopped right back into the rat race and forgot that we “slowed down” for this moment in time. The days passed, the months passed and here we are. But at the end of it all, I think the timing of this release is happening when it was meant to happen. Beautiful Tragedy is best listened to with headphones, or better yet.. in your car; on a night drive when you want the world to slow down and you’re purely soaking in the vibes. Thanks for supporting me in this journey, looking forward to this next step.
