'Infinite Display 1: Hydrexaline' is the first of a recurring output of experimental field trip recordings, with the ultimate goal of combining serialized music drops with innovative web3 based digital art and release strategy. The idea is to harken back to the days of highly prolific beat tape installments, such as MF Doom's 'Special Herbs and Spices' series, and collide the episodic releases with new technologies and visual art that now surround musicians. I began production on "Hydrexaline" back in 2020 in a bungalow in Hollywood I was living in at the time. The song was created largely on a vintage SP404, containing resampled excerpts of synth and drum loops I recorded at home, plus live electric bass and vocals. With this song I aimed to combine channel and recombine elements from music I love by the likes of Boards of Canada, Atlas Sound, New Order, George Clanton, and the Radio Dept. The artwork for this track is a scan of a photograph I took on a Canon Sure Shot around the time song was made. With future releases, I would like to collaborate with other visual artists to explore exciting ways of augmenting artworks I produce, such as photographs and drawings, that are relevant to the associated sound recordings, hopefully resulting in a truly synergistic collaborative multi-media art piece. I have stockpiled close to fifty similar experimental field trip recordings that I feel are well suited to this type of release medium, and I'm excited to see where the project can take these songs.
