I wrote this song on a gloomy day towards the tail end of my last relationship. I was constantly faced with the reality that people only change when they need to change for themselves. People will live their entire lives not realizing they are imperfect beings who yearn for growth. Change is the only constant we have in life. It's important to grow and evolve and understand our flaws so we can become better people. Rainboots is about that experience specifically towards my old lover who wouldn't acknowledge the importance of change and growing together as one. Heartbreak and loss can be experienced in a relationship months before the relationship comes to an end. There is a somber loneliness that looms heavily in the air when both partners know the end is near. We latch onto the lover we once knew even though we understand we both changed. Is it for comfort, the fear or loneliness or the terrors of change? Either way, trees shed leaves and so should we.
