Moroccan Oranges is a song about the summer I traveled to Morocco and Paris with my dad and sister after my mom passed away. It’s about the dissonance I felt looking at my dad trying to hold it together and make us feel okay, knowing that even though we were seeing stunning views, and trying new foods, and were there together, we felt completely shattered. After my dad passed, the trip took on even more significance as the last time I really had with him. The artwork is a photo of my dad and I. My sister took it after we fell asleep on a train after visiting Monet’s gardens in Giverny. The song is intentionally upbeat to juxtapose the lyrics.
