After experiencing my first proper performances my junior year of college, I came home with the idea to channel this energy into a song. For me, performing is an exhilarating experience that brings me into the moment like nothing else. I spend all day thinking and practicing for that very moment, but once I’m on stage and my music starts playing, I forget about everything. My body is taken over by my passion for my art. The music somehow takes all my fears and washes them away, leaving only my true self behind. Much of the verses touch on the topics of fear since this is the main challenge for me when I perform. The authenticity of beating those fears is what drives me to keep pushing. Guided by the beat, I am able to show myself confidently and light-heartedly. Since I was young, I battled with social anxiety in larger group settings. I often didn’t know what to say or how to act in these settings, which made me feel inauthentic. This would cause feedback loops in my head, making every situation more serious than it was. However, if my music is playing, I can be in front of a million people and still be authentic.
