This was the first track I made for my second EP 'Souls.' The song has been a guiding light for my musical vision since 2018. The track came as a result of trying to build on the sound introduced with 'Begin' and the 'All Becomes Okay' EP. When I made the instrumental for 'You and Me,' I was inspired by ambient production that pulled on the heart strings. At the slower tempo of 113, I felt the track was a bit more grounded and could fit any kind of mindset, but still had a nice groove to it. While creating demos for the new EP, I wanted to broaden my horizons as a solo artist by finding some new collaborators. I sent it to the artist Haux and he put down some great vocals on it. The words and vocals he wrote worked perfectly in my vocal range, so this was the first song I decided to actually sing upfront. The lyrics also reflected my own mushy feelings for my girlfriend (now wife!). Before I had sent the song to Haux, I had played it for Cautious Clay in a session we did together. He sang this really cool idea that I ended up using for the vocal chop "wish that I could take more, take more chances." The three elements turned out to be the perfect synergy; my dancey yet pretty production, Haux's vulnerable lyrical style, and Cautious Clay's catchy vocal hooks. This is still the song that most people sing along to at my shows, so it has a really special place in my heart after all this time. I'm glad to offer fans a piece of this track that has given me so much over the years!
