The sounds from your childhood truly never go away... I was massive *NSYNC fan as a kid and then somewhere in my adult life, I came back around to their catalog and rediscovered my nostalgic affinity for that era in music. So creating a reggae cover of an *NSYNC song was not just a goal, but an inevitability. "This I Promise You" has always stood out to me as a beautiful composition that has more of a timeless sensibility to it compared to the rest of their more era specific recordings, which made it my top choice to cover. For my version, I brought in my love for classic Jamaican style lovers rock. Vibes like Beres Hammond, Dennis Brown & Aswad. I always felt that "This I Promise You" as a composition would fit in very well with this particular style of expression. The recording is 100% in house and self-produced. I'm playing live keyboards, bass, tenor sax and percussion throughout on top of all of the vocals. The most important component that I wanted to bring was making sure I kept that iconic 5-part vocal harmony throughout the chorus. I transcribed the original *NSYNC harmonies & used them in my recording as well. I'm extremely happy with how this recording came out and it has now become an unexpected favorite amongst my own recording catalog, as this was more of a passion project than an intentionally designed commercial release.
